The upgrade of the connected traffic infrastructure
When discussing solutions to solve difficulties, attract investment, promote development of the key economic region in the South, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc evaluated Ba Ria – Vung Tau with Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Tien Giang and Long An to form a diamond octagon of the country, accounting for 43% of the gross domestic product (GDP). In the future, this will be the leading mega hub in Southeast Asia and East Asia. Therefore, there should be a specific mechanism for this southern key economic region with separate investment support packages from the central budget to speed up the implementation of important and urgent connecting transport infrastructure.
Recently, the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province has just submitted to the Government a pre-feasibility study report on the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau expressway project. The expressway consists of two component projects, with a total length of 62.8 km. In particular, the first component project has a total investment of more than 12,300 billion VND and is expected to start in 2021. When put into operation, this expressway will help connect Ba Ria – Vung Tau in general and Ho Tram specifically with the Southeast region.
To the west, the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway project has also entered the final stage of the construction process. Scheduled to complete in 2021, the expressway helps connect Ho Tram with the Mekong Delta provinces without going through Ho Chi Minh City, thereby reducing the load on the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh expressway and welcoming domestic passenger flow from the South West Region.
