Wake Up A Series Of Traffic Projects In The South
Delay in progress or delayed construction for many years is an undeniable reality of a series of traffic projects.
However, there will be 4 major projects in the southern region wake up and expected to finish in 2023.
Dau Giay – Phan Thiet – Vinh Hao Highway
Dau Giay – Phan Thiet – Vinh Hao Highway is one of the key highways in the South. The project consists of 2 routes being implemented including Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Highway and Vinh Hao – Phan Thiet highway.
The highway connects Ho Chi Minh City and the South Central region
Currently, the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet highway is basically seamless and the asphalt carpet is completed in some sections. It is expected to complete 100% of the schedule from April 30. The project has a total length of 99km, including 2 sections: 47km through Binh Thuan and 52km in Dong Nai; over 32m in width, including 6 lanes with design speed of 120km/h.
Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Highway is now more than 71% complete
Phan Thiet – Vinh Hao Highway, expected to be completed by the end of 2022, is currently behind schedule due to lack of materials, rising material prices, and the rainy season coming earlier than forecasted. The Ministry of Transport is striving to complete it before April 30. The project was started in November 2020, with a length of 101km including 6 lanes with a total investment of VND 11,000 billion.
My Thuan – Can Tho Highway
The highway is part of the North-South highway project, starting in early 2021, the whole route has a length of 23km. My Thuan – Can Tho Highway, when completed, will include 6 lanes with a speed of 100km/h. Phase one will include 4 lanes, design speed 80km/h is expected to finish in December this year.
My Thuan Bridge 2
Belonging to the East North-South Highway in the period 2017-2020, the project connecting Trung Luong – My Thuan Highway and My Thuan – Can Tho Highway with a total investment of more than 5,000 billion VND. The total length of the project is 6.61km, including the main bridge 1.9km long and the path at both ends of the bridge 4.7km long. When completed, the project will have 6 lanes for traffic with a design speed of 80km/h.
Currently, My Thuan bridge has been tensioned with cable-stayed the bridge, which is being cabled for complete in September this year
Metro line Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien
This is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City with an investment of more than 43,700 billion VND from Japanese ODA loans and domestic counterpart funds. The length of the whole route is 20km from Ben Thanh station (District 1) to Long Binh Depot (Thu Duc city) including 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. In December 2022, the metro line carried out a trial run with three 61m-long train cars, passing through five elevated stations with a route of nearly 10km. The project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2023.

This is a project that the people of Ho Chi Minh City have been looking forward to for the past 10 years, expected to be the city’s outstanding infrastructure project, “heat pump” for the East region and become an expensive selling point for real estate projects in this area.

The plan of the above projects creates many expectations to shorten the travel time between the southern provinces, increase the connection to the “flagship” of the country – Ho Chi Minh City. Projects expected to complete phase one this year will continue to accelerate construction to reach 100% completion in 2025-2026.
